Project Overview

The project titled "02 Nos of Govt. Primary Girls School" was initiated by SHED INGO in the districts of Attock and Mianwali. The project commenced on April 12, 2017, and was completed by May 2, 2017. The aim of the project was to establish two government primary schools specifically for girls in these areas, addressing the educational needs of young girls in these underserved regions. With a total project budget of 30 million PKR, the initiative focused on creating safe, accessible, and quality educational infrastructure. A design and planning budget of 1.87 million PKR was allocated for the project, which was executed under a single-firm contract.

Project Components

  • Classrooms: The core focus of the project was the construction of classrooms for the two primary schools. Each school was designed to house multiple classrooms, ensuring that the students had access to clean, spacious, and well-lit learning environments. These classrooms were designed with proper ventilation, seating arrangements, and safety features suitable for primary-aged girls, facilitating a conducive learning environment.

  • Boundary Wall: To ensure the safety and security of the students and staff, a boundary wall was constructed around each school. The boundary wall not only defined the perimeter of the schools but also ensured that the premises were secure from external disturbances. It also protected students from potential hazards and limited access to the school grounds, making it a safe space for the girls.

  • Internal Road: Internal roads were developed within the school premises to ensure smooth and safe movement of students, teachers, and staff. These roads were particularly important in providing access to the classrooms, administrative buildings, and other essential areas of the school, particularly in areas where terrain could pose a challenge during the rainy season.

Project Timeline

  • Start Date: April 12, 2017
  • Completion Date: May 2, 2017

The project had a remarkably short timeline of approximately three weeks for completion. Despite the limited timeframe, the project was executed efficiently, ensuring that all the essential components — classrooms, boundary walls, and internal roads — were constructed to meet educational standards and safety requirements.

Project Budget

  • Total Project Cost: 30 million PKR
  • Design and Planning Budget: 1.87 million PKR

The total budget of 30 million PKR covered all aspects of the project, including construction materials, labor costs, and other administrative and operational expenses. The budget for design and planning, which amounted to 1.87 million PKR, was allocated to creating detailed architectural and engineering plans that ensured both functionality and safety for the two primary schools.

Project Challenges

Several challenges were encountered during the execution of this project, which had to be addressed efficiently to ensure timely completion:

  • Logistical Issues: The geographical locations of Attock and Mianwali presented logistical challenges, particularly in transporting materials and construction equipment to these areas. Both districts have areas with difficult access, and planning for timely delivery of materials became crucial to avoid delays.

  • Weather Conditions: The project's timeline coincided with seasonal weather challenges, particularly in terms of rainfall. Weather conditions impacted the construction process, especially for the external components like the boundary wall and internal roads. Despite these challenges, the construction team worked around the weather to keep the project on track.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: The project’s focus on girls' education in these regions required cultural considerations. Understanding and addressing local customs and potential community concerns were crucial to gaining support for the project. Ensuring that the schools were designed to cater specifically to the needs of young girls was essential in securing the backing of the local population.

  • Budget Management: Managing the project within the allocated budget was a challenge, given the tight financial constraints for design and planning. However, the project was executed effectively with a focus on cost-effective solutions without compromising the quality of the buildings or safety features.

  • Material Availability: In some areas, sourcing quality construction materials was difficult due to the remote locations of the schools. The project team had to find reliable suppliers who could provide materials that met the required standards while staying within the allocated budget.

The "02 Nos of Govt. Primary Girls School" project is a significant milestone in providing quality educational infrastructure for young girls in Attock and Mianwali. Despite facing challenges like logistical issues, weather conditions, and cultural sensitivities, the project was completed successfully within the stipulated timeframe. The schools offer secure, functional, and comfortable environments that will help empower young girls by giving them access to education. This initiative not only helps meet the educational needs of the communities but also contributes to the long-term development of the region by providing the younger generation of girls with the tools for a better future.
